About Us

LatterDaySaintBooks.Com is an on-line service for readers and collectors of new, used, out of print and rare LDS and Mormon related bibliographic materials. The web-site is provided by by Sam Weller's Zion Bookstore, Salt Lake City's Premiere bookstore since 1929.

Sam Weller's Zion Bookstore is an independent, family owned operation which has been serving Salt Lake City and the Inter-Mountain West for three generations. Zions Bookstore was founded in 1929 by Gustav Weller who followed his LDS faith from Germany to Salt Lake City in 1925. Gustav and his son, Sam who took over the business on his return from Wolrd War II service in 1945, transformed the little shop into one of the larger independent bookstores in the nation. Today the bookstore still bears Sam's name as well as the original name, Zion Bookstore. It is now run by Sam's son, Tony, and boasts an inventory approaching one and one half million volumes of new, used, out of print and rare books on all subjects. The bookstore has over 30,000 square feet of retail space on four floors and employs about 40 people.

Sam Weller's Zion Bookstore is a member of or has professional affiliations with the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America (where we have both a full membership and an associate membership), the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers, American Booksellers Association, Mountain and Plains Booksellers Association, LDS Booksellers Association, Mormon History Association, Book Sense, as well as several local business groups such as the Downtown Alliance of Salt Lake City, the Vest Pocket Coalition and, of course, the Better Business Bureau of America.

LatterDaySaintBooks.Com was created by Sam Weller's Zion Bookstore to serve its growing inter-net clientele who are interested in LDS and Mormon books and printed materials. It is a natural extension of the bookstore's extensive collections of Western Americana and what we in the booktrade call "Mormoniana." This includes all the books and materials by and about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, its theology and Mormonism in general. Included are pamphlets, tracts, periodicals, newspapers, documents and journals, autographs, holographs, priesthood and auxiliary lesson manuals, doctrinal discussions; histories of specific Church units - Stakes, Wards, Branches, Missions; genealogies and family histories; as well as histories of the towns, states, regions and the eras in which Mormonism has existed. The collection also includes these same kinds of bibliographic materials from churches and religious groups which have broken away from the LDS Church with regularity. To this array of books we have also added books which in our 74 years of experience are of interest to LDS readers: bible commentaries by non-LDS editors and authors, histories from authors such as Josephus to Alfred Edersheim to Fredreick Farrar to Paul Johnson, and philosophical works by such thinkers as C.S. Lewis and James Allen.

LatterDaySaintBooks.Com was launched on April 4th, 2003 and contained an initial on-line inventory of about 30,000 items! This, however, is only a portion of the bookstore's massive inventory of well over a million volumes. We are up-loading new titles onto LatterDaySaints.Com at the rate of about 2,000 a week. Consequently, if you do not find what you are looking for on the site, please contact us to see if we have it available in the bookstore.
